Little John was four years old, and like all little boys of that age, he was very curious. What he liked more than anything else in the world was to explore, and almost everyday he made a new discovery. This imaginary story by Ramón Aragüés is precisely about one of these everyday discoveries that come about at bath-time. Daddy washed the ears, knees, elbows and feet. To get things going Little John rubbed the soap on. Suddenly, the tip of his finger disappeared. What had happened?

Description

Little John was four years old, and like all little boys of that age, he was very curious. What he liked more than anything else in the world was to explore, and almost everyday he made a new discovery. This imaginary story by Ramón Aragüés is precisely about one of these everyday discoveries that come about at bath-time. Daddy washed the ears, knees, elbows and feet. To get things going Little John rubbed the soap on. Suddenly, the tip of his finger disappeared. What had happened? His finger had gone inside his belly button! This is how our protagonist discovers he had a hole in his belly, but the finding intrigued him so much that from then on he was always asking: but, why do I have a belly button? And it’s that Little John is experimenting one of the more amusing infant stages: that of questions. During this period, the youngest want to know the why of everything that surrounds them, and as in this case, they go to those who are closest: to dad, their eldest sister, grandfather and mother… Each one of the members of this particular family, taking advantage of the little one’s innocence, invents a little lie about the origin of the belly button, until in the end mother reveals the true reason for its existence, and in passing, one of the greatest mysteries of life.
